Singapore scores 3 golds at Worldskills competition 2007
Singapore has bagged 3 gold medals at the International Worldskills Competition 2007.
Nanyang Polytechnic students Ethel Lim and Poh Pei Fen struck gold for displaying model best practices in 'Caring Nursing Skills'.
Competing for the first time the duo beat competitors from Finland, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands.
On the other hand, Singapore Polytechnic's Muhamad Sufyan bin Zainalabidin became the first Singaporean to win gold in Mechanical Engineering Drawing & Design CADD skills area.
Timothy Goh won gold in the IT/PC & Network Support, marking Singapore's fourth consecutive win in the skills area, while Neo Yuan Sheng won bronze in Industrial Control.
The five students were among the 14 who were selected during the local equivalent of the competition organised by ITE last year .
They pitted their skills in 12 of the 47 skills areas that saw 800 youths from 45 countries taking part.
Singapore came in fifth in terms of medal tally and grabbed the third spot for average medal points achieved.
Singapore's medal tally averages 1.67, closely behind Japan and Korea.
The Worldskills Competition, dubbed the 'Olympics of Skills', was held in Japan from 15th to the 18th of this month.
